On Thursday, September 10, Brevard Achievement Center (BAC) will host “Dinner in the Dark” – a truly one-of-a-kind dining experience never before held on the Space Coast.

Created in Europe over 20 years ago, dining in the dark gives participants a chance to tap into their other four senses and experience what it’s like to have a visual impairment because they’ll be eating blindfolded. Those attending BAC’s event will enjoy a delicious dinner catered by The Green Turtle Market, as well as desserts prepared by the nonprofit, Cake-a-ree Bakery and decorated by BAC clients. In addition to dinner, guests can bid on silent auction items while listening to music by Arturuo Escharte.

Proceeds from “Dinner in the Dark” will support BAC’s own Industry Readiness Training (IRT) program, the first of its kind in the southeast. The IRT gives individuals with disabilities an opportunity to obtain and sustain employment at the highest level achievable through structured in-house skills training in highly marketable industries like hospitality, food service and manufacturing. To ensure that participants learn the skills necessary to be employable in those markets, an advisory council consisting of local leaders from those industries will assist BAC.
