Road and Track calls this event "the one to steer to on the Space Coast." Motor Trend said it's a "hairpin turn away from being the perfect fun-raiser." Okay. No, they didn't. Make new friends, or join your own, at BAC's Very Special Arts Florida-Brevard County's (VSAF-BC) first Bunco Fiesta fundraiser! There will be food, drinks, prizes and a 50/50 raffle! BAC’s Very Special Arts Florida-Brevard County’s Performing Arts Showcase

Seven middle and high school Exceptional Student Education (ESE) classes will be chosen to participate in BAC's Very Special Arts Florida-Brevard County's 5th Annual Performing Arts Showcase. The classrooms and teachers will be named at the end of August. Among the group also will be adults with disabilities from BAC. Each classroom works with a visiting artist for eight weeks, one hour per week, to create a performance in either improv theatre, music or dance/movement which is then performed in front of a live audience on the main stage of the King Center for the Performing Arts. This year's Showcase also includes Karen Peterson Dancers (KPD), a Miami-based dance troupe with mixed ability dancers. Karen will share her expertise with teachers and students during the week of the Showcase and perform at the event, too. Simply click the web site below to register. See you at the Showcase!

Got a collegian in your midst? Be sure to check out our collegiate-inspired rubber door mats perfect for any dorm room, apartment or home. BAC’s Inaugural E2A Community Awards and NDEAM Event

As part of its National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) activities, Brevard Achievement Center (BAC) presents the inaugural E2A (Employ, Empower: Achieve) Community Awards.  The E2A Awards honors individuals and organizations across Brevard for creating opportunities that help persons with disabilities achieve personal success. The 2017 E2A Awards' celebration will be held October 25, 2017 at the Hilton Rialto at a community-wide breakfast. In addition to the Awards, the event will feature motivational funny man Brett Leake, a “sit-down” stand-up comic with muscular dystrophy and a stand-up wheelchair user. Leake, who uses humor as a problem-solving device, is the first comedian with a physical disability to appear on NBC’s The Tonight Show. Jay Leno said, “He broke up the whole room. People realized here’s a man with a disability and he’s not gonna’ let it bother him.” Leake also has appeared on Entertainment Tonight, the American Comedy Awards and an hour-long comedy special aired on several public broadcasting stations. As a National Humor Treasure Award winner, he joins the ranks of, among others, Gilda Radner, Victor Borge, Sid Caesar, The Smothers Brothers, Art Buchwald, Steve Allen, Bob Newhart, as well as Leno. The E2A Award categories include: Employ, Empower Awards: Recognizes organizations that create work opportunities in the community for people with disabilities Moving Forward Awards: Recognizes individuals and/or organizations that have made special effort to assist people with disabilities in gaining new skills Believe and Achieve Awards: Recognizes individuals with disabilities who have made significant personal strides in achieving success through their work or personal lives
