Brevard Achievement Center provides programs for people with disabilities that open doors to new opportunities. Through support, enrichment and training, people learn that there truly is no limit to what they can achieve.

One such example is the On-the-Job Training Program. Mark Gallagher, the energetic owner of Mark’s Auto & Marine Service in Cocoa Beach, worked with BAC to give one of our clients hands-on experience. Mark gave Douglas F. (Doug) a chance to train for a few weeks as a Mechanic’s Assistant on an On the Job Training (OJT) basis. This meant Doug was able to learn many new automotive repair skills. More importantly, he gained a new sense of accomplishment. In regards to the work he was doing, Doug said, “I feel like I’m actually contributing to the world.”

These programs can change a life.

Working at Mark’s Auto & Marine Service gave Doug a high degree of respect for Mark. He admired Mark’s integrity as a business owner, his work ethic and the high expectations he has for his employees. In fact, Doug was so inspired by his experience at Mark’s business that he applied for the Automotive Service Technology program at Eastern Florida State College (EFSC). Plus, as part of the application process, Mark wrote a recommendation letter for Doug. Soon, Doug began the automotive program at EFSC.
